Definitions: coaching and consulting
The term „coaching“ is understood and used in many different ways. The original meaning, „problem solving on a 1:1 basis“, has been interpreted more and more broadly over time, so that almost every kind of verbal support or advice is now referred to as “coaching”.
We work on the basis of the definitions and limits supplied by the German Federal Association of Executive Coaching (DBVC) and use the term “coaching” in its traditional sense of “individual advice and personal support on management and career related decisions“.
The term “consulting” can also be understood in different ways. Often, one first thinks of technical advice based on special expertise (e.g. in a specific legal or technological area). But the term is also used for “help towards self-help” based on competence in processes and methods in a context of “not-yet-knowing”.
We understand Executive Coaching to be a combination of context-related clarification, person-centered reflection and process-oriented support. We focus on our core competencies as Consultants in Executive Choices, reflecting both the occasions when consulting is appropriate (choices) and our clientele (executives).
